BASHEERBAGH, AFTER THE PALACE.

Sometimes a building disappears and its name continues to give directions.

Lala Deen Dayal photographed Bashir-bagh Palace in the 1880s. The palace was later dismantled. Basheerbagh remained.

That is one of the city’s quiet powers: language can outlast walls. A neighbourhood name is not a museum label; it is spoken into traffic, appointments and everyday navigation. History survives because people keep using it without ceremony.

The palace is absent. The address is alive. Hyderabad carries both facts at once.
